Pediatric Chiropractic

Children’s bodies are constantly growing, stretching, and changing, and all that growth can cause imbalances and discomfort. “Growing pains” is a real thing, and chiropractic care is a safe way to help restore balance and alleviate those growing pains. We’ve treated patients as young as one month, and we’re happy to care for children of any age. We encourage parents to go with their gut because they know what’s normal for their child. If something seems off or not quite right about your child’s posture or gait or even their behavior, we would be happy to see them and help you decide if chiropractic is the right approach.

Pregnancy Chiropractic

We have a special intake form for our pregnant patients to give us a clear picture of exactly what’s going on with their pregnancy. We also do an extremely thorough evaluation, to make sure there are no contraindications to treating you. We apply an extra-conservative approach to adjusting our pregnant patients, utilizing a special drop table combined with gentle myofascial release work when needed. We also take the time to explain everything very thoroughly, answering any questions you may have, and tailoring treatment to your individual needs and comfort level.

Sports Chiropractic

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to feel the effects of your activities. Sports and outdoor activities stress the musculoskeletal system. Sometimes the body recovers from the stress on its own, but other times that added stress results in dysfunction, which causes pain. Chiropractic care helps by alleviating the pain and restoring the body’s optimal function. Proper function is necessary for proper form, which is required for proper performance. Regular chiropractic care can help keep your body in top form for peak performance in whatever activity you love to do.

Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest nondrug, noninvasive forms of health care available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, are very small. Many patients feel immediate relief following chiropractic treatment, but some may experience mild soreness, stiffness or aching, just as they do after some forms of exercise. Current research shows that minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.

Neck pain and some types of headaches are treated through precise cervical manipulation. Cervical manipulation, often called a neck adjustment, works to improve joint mobility in the neck, restoring range of motion and reducing muscle spasm, which helps relieve pressure and tension. Neck manipulation, when performed by a skilled and well educated professional such as a doctor of chiropractic, is a remarkably safe procedure.

Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to health care, meaning it treats the body as a whole rather than as a collection of symptoms. It’s also non-invasive and safe. Whatever your goals, we want to help you attain your optimal level of health.

Joint restrictions usually occur in tandem with soft tissue problems: the tissue around the joint becomes inflamed, taut, and swollen, which causes the fascia over the muscles to become tight and pull on the joints, which further increases the joint restriction.

The chiropractic adjustment gets the joints moving again. We prefer manual adjustments because the hands-on approach is highly effective as well as more comforting to the body than using instruments. However, all patients are different, and we are happy to use the hand-held mechanical instrument called the Activator adjusting instrument for those who prefer it.

Depending on the extent of the problem, chiropractic care helps patients feel noticeably better shortly after receiving treatment.  The general rule of improvement is within 1 to 4 weeks from starting chiropractic therapy. However, this is for non-complex musculoskeletal conditions. During the first visits, the patient will typically feel pain reduction of 40% to 80%. After some time the pain can completely disappear along with functional improvement.

The main aim of chiropractors is to do everything they can to reduce pain and restore functionality as fast as possible. However, for a successful outcome, patients should make sure they attend all sessions of their chiropractic program plan. In general, a chiropractic plan includes stretches and other types of exercises in addition to ergonomic tools such as pillows, belts and back supports. Not attending to all parts of the process will increase the amount of time needed for care.

After improvement is noted, there is an introduction to self-help or home-based recommendations with the help of ergonomic tools like elastic bands, dietary support or the use of a foam roller. The chiropractic plan and time frame are driven by the patient’s level of activity, pain, and disability.
